Neverwonder - USA
Music Review - "Neverwonder" USA
This band oozes California!! They've got sauce, sex, funk and dirt, melting into their tunes. Joy's voice is a paradoxical mix of feminine sweetness and masculine distortion, giving it that explosiveness required to compete with heavy guitars and thumping bass lines. These songs have been carefully crafted to flow, like a river. We're not talking 'row row row your boat gently down the stream' here, we're talking, 'white water rafting!'. Energy and danger is the name of the game with these guys. They're experimenting with country, blues, funk, metal, rock (of course) and even reggae, fusing them together with their own unique brand of NeverWonderNess. I like it. It's raw, it's dangerous, it's California! 'Everywhere' has moment of '4 Non Blonds', 'Fathers Children' is more reminiscent of the Kelly Clarkson/Ben Moody collaboration with aggressive but impassioned lyrics (a personal testament maybe?) and 'Turnaround' is an easy to listen to, funked up and squeezed out, hot sweaty, underground 'live music' bar, tune, with some strangely Byork(y) vocals going on. I'm from London and I'd definitely make a special trip to go and see these guys perform live. I better bring a towel!
