So, apparently I get to write whatever I want in my personal bio! There are many directions we can go with this, but I think I will stick to the things I believe you may want to know.
Joy's Cliffs Notes:
- I grew up in Morrisville, PA (about 25 miles outside of Philly).
- I studied ballet dancing hard core until the age of 18. Very hard core!
- I toured throughout China at the age of 16 and performed in their yearly Arts Festival.
- I attended Point Park College Conservatory of the Performing Arts on scholarship for musical theatre.
- I left college for six months to tour with the Broadway show "Crazy for You".
- I was on contract singing and dancing with Holland America Cruise Lines for six months prior to moving to L.A.
- The first two Rock bands that I fronted were produced and co-produced by Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros).
Short & Sweet! So here I am fronting Neverwonder. You never know where life leads you.
On the musical side of things:
Everyone always asks me about my lyrics. I assume this would be the appropriate place to discuss them. ALL of my lyrics are personal. Based on personal experiences, situations, beliefs (non-religion) and feelings. I am not a political person (I'll leave that to Ani Difranco). But I do write about "social" matters... such as "Father's Children". The lyrics of Neverwonder's album was completely based around my first year here in Los Angeles. A majority of the time I allow a melody line, hook, or mood set by one of the guys or myself influence what direction the song will take lyrically. But it always molds into the words of what I'm personally dealing with at that time. Give me the name of any Neverwonder song... and a storyboard of memories and events starts playing in my head. Honesty in lyrics through my own experiences is the best gift I can give to anyone. Hopefully you can relate with me, and we can feel the same.
Cheers!
Joy
